When I was 4 years old, I began breaking the strings of my dad's acoustic guitar, and he certainly wanted me to stop. By the time I turned 7, he realized it would be more practical to buy me a piano. So, I started playing classical piano for four years, but eventually found it a little boring.
Around the age of 13, I discovered rock and metal music through a high school band. I was so excited that I bought an electric guitar the day after their show. I played obsessively from that moment, eventually becoming the lead musician of the new high school band. Nirvana, Metallica, Megadeth, Sepultura, Suicidal Tendencies, Cynic, Obliveon, and Dream Theater became the focus of my thoughts. From the bed to the bathroom, from morning until dawn, I practiced perfecting these riffs and solos.
I found that the best way to learn the guitar as an autodidact is to teach it. So, a few months later, I started teaching the guitar to others. Every time I learned something new, I thought about the best and easiest way to execute and explain it. This paid off immensely. I continued my guitar education, obtaining a College Diploma in Popular Music and another in Professional Music. Unsatisfied, I pursued a bachelor’s degree in Electric Jazz Guitar at the University of Sherbrooke.
After accumulating a handful of diplomas, I quickly learned that these papers are no guarantee of a musician's value. I had to work full time as a sales representative for 13 years in consumer electronics and at a music store during the day, teaching guitar and playing gigs at night. I dispelled the utopian idea of being a professional musician.
Desperate for a more promising career, I began searching for jobs online. While entering my job preferences, I stumbled upon a Video Game Composer position at Gameloft Montreal. I never thought such a job could exist! I applied and started working there full-time as a music composer in August 2008.
Here I am now, always passionate about music, on a quest for things that will push me further. Who knows what incredible experiences I will have to add here in a few years.
Cheers!
